Why did you choose Linfield?
I chose Linfield for the many opportunities offered because of its smaller size. I wanted a school where I could feel very connected. I liked the idea of classes where you get to know your professors. When I visited Linfield during Oregon College Week, it felt like such a friendly and supportive place. I immediately felt at home.
What do you plan to pursue after Linfield?
After Linfield I plan on going to graduate school in the field of psychology. I eventually want to work with children and/or adults with disabilities.
What activities do you participate in on campus?
I am the Vice President of Circle K, a community service club, as well as a member of the Senate. I was also a First Clas leader and an Orientation leader this year
Why did you choose to register with Learning Support Services?
I chose to register for Learning Support Services when I started attending Linfield because I have some physical limitations, including the use of my hands. The LSS office worked with me to devise a plan specifically to support note and test taking.
What has been your experience working with LSS within the office?
The LSS Office has been very supportive and come up with solutions to facilitate my success. The support they have offered allows me to perform at my academic best. The office has also made it very easy to set up and maintain accommodations.
What has been your experience communicating with professors about using accommodations?
I have had very good experiences with professors about using my accommodations. When I start a new class, I usually stay after class or set up an appointment during the professor’s office hours to review my accommodations. Communication is really important, so everyone has the same expectations. All my professors have been very supportive and respectful.
What strategies do you use to help you meet your academic goals?
The strategy that I use to be successful is a planner, which helps me keep track of assignment dates, tests, appointments, events and other things that I have to remember! Also because of my disabilities, I can’t always count on feeling my best, so I never let myself get behind. If I have a bad day, I don’t get behind and get overly stressed.
What advice would you give students who are thinking about working with LSS?
I would tell any student that is thinking about working with the LSS office to set up a meeting. Asking for help can be hard, but everyone at the LSS office is very understanding and will help you decide the next steps that can help you achieve your academic goals.
