Getting started with Kaltura for students

What is Kaltura?

Kaltura is a set of media tools: a media server, web and screen capture tool, and a basic video editor that plug right into Blackboard, making it easy for you to share your own video creations with your instructor and classmates.

  • Use the Kaltura My Media library to upload, store, and organize your own videos.
  • Use Kaltura Capture to create videos using your computer’s web-cam and to capture your screen and voice.
  • Use the editor to clip out mistakes and add credits.
  • Kaltura Mashup to embed your videos anywhere there is a text box in Blackboard (discussions board, blog, journal, wiki, assignment)

Purpose of the guide: Why and how to use it

Has your instructor asked you to create and upload a video to an assignment in Blackboard? Have you made a brief video on your phone that you would like to show to your classmates? Would you like to create a short introductory video to include in an online discussion post?

This guide will show you how to use Kaltura media tools within Blackboard to create, upload, organize, and post your videos.

My Media allows you to work with videos without being in a specific course. You can find My Media linked from the My Blackboard page, which takes you to your Kaltura media collection and the Kaltura Capture tools.
