Nationally Competitive Scholarships and Fellowships

Linfield students with outstanding records are encouraged to consider applying for one of the highly competitive scholarships or fellowships on this site. Some, such as the Rhodes, are awarded to as few as 32 nationwide. Others, such as the Fulbright, which Linfield students have been especially successful in earning, are variable and depend upon the number of grants available in a given country. Although Rhodes and Fulbright fund opportunities for study, research and/or teaching abroad, other programs, such as the Goldwater, Udall or NSF grants provide funding for students studying at their home institution or at a graduate program in the United States.

Information about other opportunities, including local scholarships, may be found through the Office of Financial Aid.

First-year, sophomore and junior students are eligible for several awards, whereas many others are available only to graduating seniors. In all cases, students should begin the application process at least 2-3 months in advance of deadlines. Fulbright applicants, for example, should begin planning during the spring of their junior year and start the application process in early summer to meet the September deadline.

Many scholarships require that students be nominated by their home institution. Others require a campus interview. Outstanding students are encouraged to explore the scholarship links on the left, and then contact:
