The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty

The DAISY award for extraordinary nursing students. Honoring nurses internationally in memor of J. Patrick Barnes

About the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty

Many students talk about hearing a professor’s voice in the back of their heads even years after graduation. These dedicated nursing professors often do not receive appropriate recognition for the effect they have on students, patient care and the nursing profession.

The DAISY Foundation, as part of its service to the nursing profession’s role in patient care, established The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty to provide colleges/schools of nursing a national recognition program they may use to demonstrate appreciation to their nursing faculty for their commitment and inspirational influence on their students.

How to nominate a nursing faculty member

Faculty nomination form

Patients, families, visitors, staff, co-workers, peers, physicians and students may nominate a deserving nursing faculty member, including Linfield School of Nursing faculty for BSN, MSN and online RN-BSN programs, as well as clinical adjunct faculty.

Criteria for nomination include:

  1. Serves as an inspirational role model and mentor for faculty, staff or students
  2. Demonstrates compassion for patients/clients, faculty, staff and students
  3. And demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching, scholarship and service

The faculty nomination form asks for the faculty member’s name, and for a specific narrative story about their exceptional skill and compassionate care. An expanding box is included for your narrative, which should include the ways the nominee has met all three of the above criteria for this nomination.

The deadline for nominations is April 22, 2022

Award honorees

Each DAISY Award for a student or faculty honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony once a year each spring and will receive: a beautiful certificate, a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled “A Healer’s Touch” and a DAISY Nursing Faculty Award pin.

Family, friends, alumni, peers and community partners are encouraged to attend the awards ceremony. The 2022 ceremony will be held during National Nurses Week in May. Details will be posted closer to the event.

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died (at the age of 33) from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Patrick’s family was very touched by the remarkable compassion and clinical skill demonstrated by Patrick’s nurses during his illness, so they created DAISY to recognize exceptional nurses everywhere.
