Orientation is required for all new (first-year and transfer) students enrolling on the McMinnville campus in the fall semester.

    Time Activity Location
    9 a.m.-12 p.m.  New student check-in and move-In: Check-in will include picking up your welcome packet, residence hall and mail keys, and student ID. Founders Drive
    9 a.m.-12 p.m. Jump Start Zone: Need to complete some steps? Have any questions? Follow up with the offices in Taylor Hall to make plans to complete the process to be move-in ready! Lawn Near Taylor Hall
    11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m.  Optional campus tours: Learn more about campus and where you'll have your classes. Depart from Riley and Walker Courtyard
    2-3 p.m. New Transfer Student Reception: Join with fellow transfer students for a reception to get to know each other, faculty, and staff at Linfield.  Fred Meyer Lounge, Riley 
    3-4 p.m. Latinx student and family reception: Join the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) office for a reception to get to know other Latinx students, families, faculty and staff at Linfield. Learn about campus clubs and events as well supports and programs for Latinx students. Withnell Commons, Multicultural Center patio

    5-7 p.m. Streak Street: Come and enjoy the start of the academic year with food trucks, games, music, etc. Held on Lever Street, this tradition celebrates the Wildcat Football Team's streak of 65 consecutive winning seasons! Lever Street in front of Memorial Football Stadium

    7-9 a.m. Breakfast: students on a meal plan may begin eating in Dillin Hall this day. Dillin Hall
    9-9:45 a.m. Meet your Registration and Orientation Group (ROG): You will meet your Registration and Orientation Leader (ROL), connect with other new students in your ROG and review the Wildcat Welcome Weekend schedule. You will also learn what to expect for your afternoon advising sessions with your new faculty advisor.  ROG Classroom (see your welcome packet for your location)
    9-9:45 a.m. Coffee hour for parents and families: Grab a cup of coffee and a pastry, meet other parents and families, and visit with a few Linfield staff members. East side of Dillin Hall
    10-11 a.m. Opening Convocation: Welcome to Linfield! Marking the official start of the academic year, new students and families will be officially welcomed by President Davis, and Linfield faculty and staff. New students will participate in the tradition of the acorn. Ted Wilson Gymnasium
    11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Lunch break: You can grab lunch at a local eatery or join us at the dining hall. Students who are on the meal plan will not be charged. Families wishing to purchase lunch may do so. Dillin Hall
    1:30-2 p.m. Group advising meetings: You will meet with your new faculty advisor and learn more about academic advising and First Semester Seminar. First Semester Seminar Classroom (see your welcome packet)
    1:30-2:45 p.m. Parent and family welcome/Q&A: Hear from the provost, vice president for student affairs/dean of students and director of parent engagement. Find out what resources are available for you and your student. Get your burning questions answered.  Ice Auditorium
    2-6 p.m. Individual advising appointments: You will be assigned a one-on-one advising appointment time to meet with your faculty advisor and discuss your academic schedule.  Your faculty advisor will confirm the time and location during your group meeting at 1:30 p.m.
    2-5 p.m. The Associated Students of Linfield University (ASLU) is hosting a variety of FUN activities ranging from slip and slide, spike ball, and corn hole. After your individual advising appointment check in with your ROL at the activities area. Riley and Walker Field
    3-4 p.m. Parent and family reception: Enjoy some light refreshments and a beverage. Visit with a few Linfield staff. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done and connect with other parents. The Oak Grove

    7:30-10 p.m. Hall Crawl: Join us for a fun-filled evening spanning all of campus! Stop by each Residence Hall to experience a different activity, meeting new people as you go! Also make sure to stop by the RHA booth by the People Fountain on Linfield Ave. Begin at any residence hall

    9-10 a.m. Navigating academic and opportunities for the future! Meet Gennie VanBeek, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences; Jennifer Madden, dean of the School of Business; and Paul Smith, dean of the School of Nursing. The academic deans will share tips on navigating university structures as well as information about exciting programs in each of their areas. Ted Wilson Gymnasium

    10-11 a.m. Introduction to religious and spiritual life at Linfield: Join the chaplain's team to learn about how you can grow, learn and flourish spiritually during your time at Linfield. Students of all faith and no faith are welcome and encourage to attend. Oak Grove
    11 a.m.-12 p.m. Wellness Trail Walk: Discover the Linfield Wellness Trail, a 1.5-mile loop that many students use for exercise or a break from their busy day. We’ll chat through casual and unique get-to-know-you prompts so you can get to know some new faces!  Meet in front of Nicholson Library
    11 a.m.-12 p.m. DIY Dry Erase Board: Need to keep track of your to do list? Communicate with others? Have a motivational quote that changes daily? Then come create your very own dry erase board! Riley and Walker Courtyard
    12-1 p.m. Commuter Student Reception: Join with fellow commuter students for a reception to get to know each other, and staff at Linfield that can help you with your college journey. Fred Meyer Lounge, Riley Hall
    1-2 p.m. Pre-nursing information session: Learn about prerequisites and admission criteria for Linfield’s School of Nursing. Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium, Melrose Hall
    2-3 p.m. Navigating Technology at Linfield: Learn about the differnt systems, sites, and etc. that you will need to effectively communicate and succeed on campus ROG classroom
    4-5 p.m. ROG meeting - starting off on the right foot: Hear from Linfield's Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) Office and learn about leadership opportunities, what they can offer you, policy FAQs and ways to have a successful time at Linfield. ROG classroom
    5-7 p.m. Involvement fair: We invite you to explore student clubs, organizations and volunteer opportunities. Hosted by the Associated Students of Linfield University (ASLU) and the Wildcat Events Board (WEB). Riley and Walker Field
    5-7 p.m. Welcome Back BBQ: All students on the meal plan will enjoy a BBQ dinner and use this an opportunity to visit the activities and involvement fair. East of Dillin Hall
    9 p.m. (Students living in the Residence Halls) Residence Hall Meetings: Meet your RA and learn more about residence life at Linfield.

ROGs, ROLs and First Semester Seminar

Every student is part of a Registration and Orientation Group (ROG) with approximately 15-20 other new students. You will meet with your ROG throughout Wildcat Welcome Weekend, and on Monday nights this fall to complete First Semester Seminar Lab (IDST 007L / IDST 009L).

First Semester Seminar is comprised of two parts: meetings with a faculty advisor throughout the semester (IDST 007, or IDST 009 for transfer students); and a Monday night lab with peers in your ROG that is led by your ROL (IDST 007L or IDST 009L).

Advising meetings facilitate the advisor-advisee relationship and cover important topics related to academic success at Linfield.

Dillin Dining Hall and Starbucks Coffee

Food service for students on the meal plan begins Friday, August 25. Dillin Dining Hall and Starbucks in the Riley Campus Center will operate on the following schedule for Fall 2023 semester:
