Parent and Family Orientation

Linfield offers a series of activities for parents and family members of new students to learn more about academic and social life at Linfield. We also have previously recorded information sessions on various topics that may be of interest to you.

You can view the 2023 New Student Orientation Schedule for our McMinnville campus to get an idea of the types of events designed to help your student acclimate to life at Linfield.

Events specifically designed for parents and families include:

Thursday, Aug. 24

9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Your student will be assigned a check in and move in time. (Assignments were emailed to students in July.) If your student will be living on campus, this is a great time for family members to help get the room ready.

7 p.m.
Cat Camp, Memorial Stadium
Cat Camp is a fun event designed to teach new students (and their families) some of the history and traditions of Linfield University.

Friday, Aug. 25

9 a.m.
Coffee Hour for parents and families, east side of Dillin Hall
While your students meet in their Registration & Orientation Group, this is your chance to meet other parents. Grab a cup of coffee and a pastry, meet other parents and families, and visit with a few Linfield staff members.

10 a.m. 
Opening Convocation, Ted Wilson Gymnasium
Marking the official start of the academic year, new students and families will be officially welcomed by President Davis, Provost Concepcion, and Linfield faculty and staff. New students will participate in the Tradition of the Acorn.

11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Lunch break
You can grab lunch at a local eatery or join us at the Dining Hall. Students who are on the meal plan will not be charged. Families wishing to purchase lunch may do so.

1:30 - 2:45 p.m.
Parent and Family Welcome/Q&A, Ice Auditorium
Hear from the provost, the vice president for Student Affairs and the director of Parent Engagement. Find out what resources are available for you and

3 - 4 p.m.
Parent and Family Reception, The Oak Grove
Enjoy some light refreshments and a beverage. Visit with a few Linfield administrators. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done and connect with other parents.

4 - 4:45 p.m.
Parent/Student Goodbyes, student's residence hall
