  • Eligibility Requirements

    • At least one faculty partner from CAS must be included among the principal investigators.
    • Student submissions must be sponsored by a faculty member (plus a CAS faculty member if submitting from the School of Business or Nursing).

    All Linfield faculty, staff, and students may submit a proposal and may participate in more than one submission.




     

  • Proposal Requirements

    1. Include at least one CAS faculty member as a principal investigator (partnerships with Linfield faculty, staff, and students from all schools/colleges, and external entities are encouraged).
    2. List principal investigators/proposal sponsors, include contact information.
    3. Identify the specific type of grant being requested (refer to “types of grants” section).
    4. Provide a realistic budget plan and proposed timeline of activities or events.
    5. Describe a clear and specific plan of how a project or activity will promote liberal arts learning.
    6. Lay out expected outcomes that will have a significant and meaningful impact on members of the Linfield community and/or the institution.
    7. Detail a plan to seek additional funding to supplement the Lacroute Initiative’s limited funds (if this is necessary to achieve the goals of the project).

    Proposals that include a plan to contribute recruitment, a capability to be institutionalized, and/or integrate with our Liberal Arts in Actions campaign may be eligible for bonus funding.

  • Available Grant Types

    1. Incubator — provide up to $500 to support a short-term exploration of common interests. These grants might support activities like faculty/student reading or discussion groups, community conversations, curricular development, grant-writing, and other low-stakes interdisciplinary engagements.
    2. Micro — provide up to $1000 (potentially renewable) to support a longer-term program or practice. These grants could support activities such as guest speakers and artists, larger reading or discussion groups, smaller conferences/symposia, grant-writing, faculty teaching observation groups, or seed money for smaller pilot projects.
    3. Macro — provide up to $5000 (potentially renewable) to support a longer-term or an institutional pilot program or practice. These grants might support more ambitious projects like semester-long visiting artist or entrepreneurs, larger public conferences/symposia, more ambitious efforts at community engagement, grant-writing, faculty teaching observation groups, or seed money for larger pilot projects.
    4. Visiting Artist/Entrepreneur — provide support for a short-term or longer-term campus visit by a visiting artist, scholar, or entrepreneur. These grants might support anything from a campus lecture/concert to a several-month residency on campus with workshops and courses.

     

  • Expectations of Grantees

    • Submit an introductory description of your project or activity via the form link provided with the approval letter, prior to the release of funds.
    • Share Lacroute Initiative efforts or experiences, periodically, by submitting update/summary forms, photos, videos, presentations, submissions to DigitalCommons@Linfield, or blog/vlog posts with lacrouteinitiative@Linfield.edu.
    • Credit sponsorship by the Lacroute Initiative in promotional or published materials.
    • Share proposal-related social media or video posts to Linfield University’s main accounts using #LacrouteLegacy.
    • Promote Lacroute Initiative connections, innovations, and programming among colleagues.
    • Participate in Lacroute Initiative promotional campaigns.
    • Submit a project summary via the form link provided with the approval letter including an assessment of Lacroute Initiative-related activities, student impact, and outcomes meeting the Lacroute Initiative mission.

    Project introductions/updates/summaries do not have to be written, we welcome video and audio submissions.

     

Applications will be considered by the Lacroute Initiative Steering Committee for clarity and depth in meeting proposal requirements listed on this page.
