Finding Your Advisor

All Linfield students are connected with an Academic Advisor and partner with them to create an individualized academic plan and learn about academic requirements. Some students may have more than one advisor and any student who has multiple majors, or minor(s), are recommended to have an advisor in each program.

Graduate students are assisted by program directors based on their program of study.


Students can find who their advisor is by looking at their advising profile in Self-Service.

  • New First Year Student on the McMinnville campus

    New First Year Students entering Linfield on the McMinnville campus are assigned a faculty advisor based on the courses they select in their first term. Typically, one of the professors teaching one of the student's  courses will become their faculty advisor until the student declares a major. At which point, a faculty advisor in the program of interest will be assigned.

  • New Transfer Student on McMinnville Campus

    New transfer students on the McMinnville campus are assigned a professional academic advisor during the onboarding process. The professional advisor connects with students to discover an appropriate academic path based on transfer credit and intended major interest. When a transfer student declares a major, the student will be assigned a faculty advisor in the student's intended program. The professional advisor also ensures a smooth transition to a faculty advisor once a transfer students declares a major.

  • Nursing Student on the Portland campus

    All Nursing students on the Portland campus are assigned a faculty advisor who teaches in the Nursing program. This advisor can provide nursing related career advice, helps students prepare for the NCLEX exam, and supports the professional needs of nursing students. A supplementary professional academic advisor is also available for students. The supplementary advisor ensures students are meeting degree requirements, works with nursing students on academic plans and schedules for completing any courses that fall outside the Nursing program.

  • Online and eCampus Student

    Students completing an Online degree or Certificate are assigned a professional academic advisor. The professional advisor will assist students in the onboarding process, provide information regarding scheduling and registration, and create academic plans with students.

  • RN-BSN Student (Online)

    Students in the RN-BSN program are assigned a professional academic advisor and a faculty advisor once the student starts the NURS*308 course (entry course). The professional advisor will assist students in the onboarding process, provide information regarding scheduling and registration, and create academic plans with students.

  • Graduate Student

    Graduate students are typically advised by the faculty coordinator(s) for their individual program. An Academic Advising Staff member may also assist graduate students in the initial onboarding process by providing information and resources on using Self-Service to register for classes.
