Faculty Advisors
Faculty are advising experts in their department. Students and other faculty can reach out to faculty advisors for academic questions and support. Please reach out to academic advising or contact faculty in your new department to strategize finding and selecting a new faculty advisor. To be assigned a faculty advisor and approved for registration, new students should follow the steps on the academic advising and registration checklist.
Current Student Advisors
For current students declaring a major, the most up to date way to identify a new faculty advisor is to check the faculty listings in the catalog section for their new major.
For example, here is the recommended process for a student declaring biochemistry and molecular biology to find a faculty advisor:
- Linfield.edu/catalog > View the most recent Catalog
- Find Programs A-Z in submenu
- Click the “More” tab > Departments and Programs by College or School
- College of Arts & Sciences > Departments and Programs
- Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
- Overview – Faculty
- Those faculty listed are potential eligible choices for an advisor in that major
- Students are encouraged to inquire with a faculty member listed about whether they would be willing to add them as an advisee
- Student will enter that faculty member's name in the Declaration form
- Overview – Faculty
- Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Transfer Student Advisors
New transfer students will have an advisor assigned to them within the department of their newly declared major. Contact academic advising for information about transfer faculty advisors in specific academic departments.

Pre-Professional Program Advisors
Students seeking advisement in pre-professional programs are encouraged to contact pre-professional coordinators and advisors listed for those areas in the Course Catalog. For additional information on Linfield's Pre-Professional programs, see our resources for Pre-Health, Pre-Law, and Pre-Nursing tracks. As a reminder, students must have a faculty advisor in their major and a pre-professional advisor does not fulfill that role.
