LC Portfolio FAQ

If your question cannot be answered below, please contact your academic advisor. For help with your Blackboard account, please contact ITS Support at techsupport@support.linfield.edu.

What is an exemplar?

An exemplar is a model, a sample or an example that demonstrates a student’s mastery of the learning outcomes for a course. This may be a paper, digital image of a work of art, or any other product required by the course.

How do I upload my exemplars?

Log into Blackboard, and click on “My Linfield Curriculum Portfolio” under My Organizations. Select “Exemplars and Supporting Work” in the sidebar to select an LC and enter your exemplars.

I don’t have an exemplar to upload.

We ask you to make a best faith effort to upload exemplars. Complete the form for the LC designation as you normally would. Is there work you feel demonstrates your learning of the LC outcomes?

If you don't feel that you have any appropriate work to upload, you can write a reflective paragraph describing the work you did in the assignment. You may do this in a Word document and upload that, or you may write your description in the text box provided.

You can always email your professor for advice on this, as well.

How do I move an exemplar?

If you have clicked “Save All Answers” at the bottom of a form and it is in the “In Progress” mode on your LC Requirements Completed page, you can just edit any of your answers. Any documents you have uploaded will be lost if you reupload another document, so you might want to make sure you click on the document and save it elsewhere before you replace it.

If you have already clicked “Save and Submit” at the bottom of a form, you can overwrite an earlier submission. You will lose the data that has already been submitted.

How do I edit a submission?

If you have clicked “Save All Answers” at the bottom of a form and it is in the “In Progress” mode on your LC Requirements Completed page, you can just edit any of your answers.

If you have clicked “Save and Submit” at the bottom of a form, you can submit a replacement. Click on the form, click “Begin” and select “Start New Submission.”

Any documents you have uploaded will be lost if you reupload another document, so you might want to make sure you click on the document and save it elsewhere before you replace it.

What if I upload an assignment to the wrong LC?

Just log into Blackboard and resubmit the exemplar to the correct LC.

If you have already submitted an LC and are replacing it, you can check status on the LC Requirements Completed page. If the LC is in "In Progress" mode, then you can just edit any of your answers. If your LC is in "Needs Grading" mode, you will need to submit a replacement. Click on the form, click “Begin” and select “Start New Submission.” Any documents you have uploaded will be lost when you reupload another document, so you might want to make sure you click on the document and save it elsewhere before you replace it.

What if I need to change which LC a class counts towards?

Just log into Blackboard and resubmit the exemplar to the new LC.

Where do I find the learning objective for the particular mode of inquiry that I want to demonstrate?

The learning objectives for each mode of inquiry are listed in the Linfield Course Catalog and on the course syllabus. They are also listed in Question 5 in each LC form in your LC Portfolio.

Will my professor assign an assignment to upload?

A professor might suggest which assignment to use if you are counting the class towards an LC, but they won't assign an assignment specifically for that purpose.

Is posting an exemplar required in order to earn the credits and the final grade in the course?

Your grade in the course is earned by meeting the learning objectives that the professor has established and is separate from posting an exemplar of your learning to your LC Portfolio. However, while this process does not affect your grade for the course in any way, the course cannot be used to meet an LC for degree requirements unless an exemplar and rationale are posted by the end of the semester in which the course is taken.

Is there a deadline for posting my exemplar to meet the LC requirement?

Yes, an exemplar and statement must be posted by the last day of finals of the semester the course is taken.

Can I submit the same material to meet different LC requirements?

No, a class can only count towards one LC. If you aren’t sure which LC a class is going to count for, you may upload the documents as a placeholder in both LCs but you will have to cancel the submission on one, and count a different class towards that LC.

Be certain to select “Save All Answers” at the bottom of any forms you think you might want to change later.

What if I already uploaded an exemplar in Taskstream?

If the LC exemplar appears on your Program Evaluation, you have met the graduation requirement for that LC.

What if I partially completed a submission in Taskstream?

Students were given ample notice that all Taskstream submissions were to be completed prior to June 30, 2019. In July 2019, the Registrar’s Office added all completed submissions to Program Evaluations.

If you have partial submissions that are still in Taskstream, that data is accessible. Go to watermarkinsights.com, click Login and then click Forgot Password. Enter your Linfield email address on the account to receive a username and a link to create a password so that you can login. Once you login, you will note that your account is inactive, but you can choose to "access your Taskstream archives" and then use the Pack-It-Up feature to save the exemplars from Taskstream to your computer. You can then re-enter these in Blackboard.

If you encounter problems, please contact Taskstream directly at (800) 311-5656.

What do I do with the exemplars in my Taskstream portfolio?

These can remain in Taskstream. These should appear on your Program Evaluation in WebAdvisor; if they don’t, please contact the Registrar’s office at 1reg@linfield.edu.

If you like, you can enter the course info in your Blackboard LC Portfolio, and can write a note saying “Submitted in Taskstream.”

Will I have access to my Taskstream or Blackboard Portfolios after I graduate from Linfield? If so, for how long?

Blackboard: Your Blackboard portfolio will be available for six months after you graduate. Linfield will retain a copy for two years. You will want to save all your exemplar submissions to an external device or cloud service for your own records.

Taskstream: To access your Taskstream Portfolio, go to watermarkinsights.com, click Login and then click Forgot Password. Enter your Linfield email address on the account to receive a username and a link to create a password so that you can login. Once you login, you will note that your account is inactive, but you can choose to "access your Taskstream archives" and then use the Pack-It-Up feature to save items from Taskstream to your computer.

If you wish to maintain your Taskstream portfolio and add items to it over time to augment your resume, you will be required to pay a fee to renew your subscription.

For detailed information, please contact Taskstream directly at (800) 311-5656.

Who will evaluate my completion of the exemplar for each mode of inquiry in the Linfield Curriculum?

Your LC Portfolio will not be evaluated each time you submit an exemplar. The Registrar's office checks to ensure that all LC requirements have been met for graduation. Your LC Portfolio is manually entered into your educational record by the Registrar's Office, and will appear on your Program Evaluation.

If the LC exemplar appears on your Program Evaluation, you have met the graduation requirement for that LC.

My exemplar says "Graded." Can I make edits?

Yes, you can click on the form and start a new Submission. All prior work will be overwritten when you click "Start New Submission," so you might want to view your original submission and save the answers and documents before doing this.

To view past submissions, go to LC Requirements Completed, select the LC you wish to view, and click on the green check mark or the yellow exclamation point under “Calculated Grade” to view the submission.

Why does my exemplar say "Needs Grading"?

This just means that it is awaiting evaluation from the appropriate faculty committee, and has no effect on you.

My exemplars haven’t been graded.

Your exemplars are not approved or graded; a faculty committee evaluates them for curricular development purposes. The Registrar’s Office checks to ensure that all LC requirements have been met for graduation. Your Blackboard Portfolio data is entered into your educational record by the Registrar’s Office, and will appear on your Program Evaluation.

If the LC exemplar appears on your Program Evaluation, you have met the graduation requirement for that LC.

How do I view the exemplars I’ve already submitted?

Within a week of completing an exemplar, your Program Evaluation should reflect the exemplars you have completed.

In Blackboard, you can click on “LC Requirements Completed” to see which forms have been submitted (Needs Grading) or are In Progress. To view a submission in detail, click on the LC Form, click “Begin,” and select “View All Attempts”. You can click on the green check mark or the yellow exclamation point under “Calculated Grade” to view the submission.

I have transfer credits I want to count towards an LC. Which course number do I use?

You should use the Linfield corresponding course number and write something like, "This is a transfer course that was originally named (course name) for (school name)."

Why do the LC forms say "Take Test" at the top?

This is simply the way Blackboard was set up. All you need to do is answer the questions and upload your exemplars. Your exemplars are not approved or graded; a faculty committee evaluates them for curricular development purposes.

I don’t see Linfield Curriculum Portfolio under My Organizations. What do I do?

Contact macsupport@linfield.edu.

I'm having trouble uploading to Blackboard.

The first step is to try another browser. If you have further problems, please contact macsupport@linfield.edu.

My CatNet password doesn't work.

You need to reset your password. Select "reset/forgot password" and it will send the information to your Linfield email. Follow instructions to set the password to your CatNet password.
