Online course technology requirements

Online courses are conducted in Blackboard via computer and a web browser.

Hardware requirements:

You will need a PC or Apple/Mac computer that is capable of running a current web browser. Computers with a current operating system, that are 5 years old or less are recommended.

Note on mobile devices

Much work can be done on mobile devices. They serve as useful supplements but will not replace the requirement for a computer that meets the above standards. 

Internet access

High-speed (DSL or Cable recommended) wired or wireless

Software

Word processing programs:

  • Any current program that can save files as .docx

Web browsers (as of 1/1/2020):

Have two or more current browsers.*

  • Chrome 63+
  • Edge 42+
  • Firefox 57+
  • Internet Explorer is no longer supported
  • Safari 12+

*If you are having trouble viewing course content, try again in a different browser

Online course instructions

Once you have enrolled in an online class, you will be able to access it starting at 8am the Wednesday before the course/term begins. See OCE schedule for important term start and end dates. Use your CatNet login and password to login to Blackboard. If you haven’t already signed up for a Linfield CatNet account go back to the “Current Students” link and select “Computer Accounts.” If you are having login problems, please call our IT Department at 503-883-2553. If you do not see your class, please call the Registrar's office M-F, 8 am - 5 pm at 503-883-2211.

CatNet ID = Linfield CatNet ID username (same as email, library resources, and WebAdvisor), all lowercase: Please make sure you have a Linfield computer account. You can call the OCE office if you are not sure.

Password= Linfield CatNet password (same as email, library resources and webadvisor).

Change or reset your password

If this is the first time you have logged in to Linfield OCE Online classes, be sure to run the Browser check, located on the menu bar of the Online Course log in page. This will help you set up your browser for optimal performance. If you are trying to login from work and get a" page cannot be displayed" message, check with your IT department to see if there are firewall issues that must be addressed before you can access our site from work.
