Programs
Linfield partners with Spanish Studies Abroad to offer the following 3 locations in Spain:
- Seville
- Located in Andalucia, in southern Spain, its temperate climate and rich cultural life embodies the spirit of traditional southern Spanish culture, from flamenco to bullfighting, to winding ancient cobblestone streets.
- SSA features all-inclusive study visits to historic locations, museums and cultural events.
- Participate in an English tutoring program for Spanish children learning English.
- Meeting with a speaking partner to practice
- Alicante
- Located on the Southeastern coast of Spain along the Mediterranean Sea. Alicante is home to many historic castles and cathedrals.
- The program in Alicante is more integrated into the Spanish university than other two locations.
- Excursions are organized by Spanish Studies Abroad, as well as the international students program at the Universidad de Alicante.
- Through university coursework, homestays with native families, and multiple cross-cultural opportunities, students will find Spanish Studies Abroad in Alicante to be a highly immersive and integrated study abroad experience.
- Barcelona
- Barcelona is a cosmopolitan city located on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, with a rich history and a vibrant culture.
- SSA features all-inclusive study visits to historic locations, museums and cultural events.
- Spanish Studies Abroad students in Barcelona study onsite at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), which has become one of the best universities in Spain, since it was founded in 1990.
- Explore the unique architecture of Barcelona, exemplified by the Gaudi buildings throughout the city
Dates
- Fall, Spring and Year-Long
Academics
- Seville Academics
- 1st semester - take classes at program site
- 2nd semester - students have the option of taking two classes at the University of Seville along with classes at the program site
- Alicante Academics
- Pre-program course - students take part in a 3 week intensive Spanish language course
- 1st & 2nd semester - students take all of their courses in Spanish with other Spanish students
- Barcelona Academics
- Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona is one of the most rigorous universities in Spain
- It is recommended students complete their first semester in Seville or Alicante and then attend Barcelona for their spring semester
Additional Requirements and Recommendations
- Minimum of 2 years of college-level Spanish required
- Barcelona & Alicante: minimum 3.0 GPA
- Preference given to students with a 3.0 GPA in Spanish language
- All participants are required to take or audit the appropriate level of Spanish in the semester directly preceding their study abroad in Spain.
- It is highly recommended that students take TCCA 230 (Intercultural Communication: Global Perspectives).
